This week has been especially busy for us. Although, staying busy keeps us informed, youthful and happily married! Having a purpose in life for serving others and not just ourselves, aids in deflecting our personal problems, so we are not moping, “woe it’s me!”
I have heard many people state they wish not to retire as they fear boredom. Well for us, it has been great! Today we visited Tri-Cities High School in East Point, GA., and registered students for our safe driving program. During this visit, the students initially appeared to not be interested. Although, after we spoke with them about the Malcolm Omari Hill Safe Driving Program, we captured their attention. On October 16, 2010, we lost our youngest son Omari in a fatal car accident in Atlanta on 285. Omari was ejected from the car, along with another young man. As a result of Omari’s death, we decided to transform tragedy into a learning experience for teens and young adults. The students began to relax, listen and eventually register for the class. We registered twenty-seven (27) students today. We are excited about God’s creative intelligence, guiding us down this path of serving others.
After visiting the high school, we visited a local library, and read to the children from our book “What if There Were No Black Folks?” This truly captured their attention. I am sure they learned something new from this text.
